Billy Donovan’s Chicago Bulls have failed to pick up any pace in the 2022-23 season. Moreover, as the team has not been able to compete consistently on a winning track, there have been regular reports of how the players and the coach haven’t been able to jell well.
Their locker room doesn’t have the most ideal environment right now, and Billy Donovan’s game plan hasn’t worked well as per the nature of the play of his different players. This is just why The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry criticized Billy Donovan for failing to fix his unit this season.
Darnell wrote, “The Bulls are beyond the midway point of the season, yet the same issues persist — slow starts, shoddy defensive rebounding, sloppy turnovers and a startling failure at basics such as boxing out. When the script becomes redundant, it’s time to look at coaching.”
Billy Donovan criticized amid lackluster 2022-23 season with Bulls
Mayberry added, “To be fair, the Bulls field a roster of players who can’t defend, rebound or shoot consistently. But it’s fair to conclude Donovan hasn’t proven capable of fixing all that ails the Bulls. He masterfully diagnoses the team’s problems, but we’re still waiting for him to land on sustainable solutions.”
This is one of the biggest issues of the Chicago Bulls. As Mayberry rightfully pointed out the roster construction has prevented Billy to use his options entirely. Furthermore, with LaVine and Billy’s relationship going downhill, there seems to be no change in direction.
