NBA analyst Dave McMenamin confirmed that Russell Westbrook and LeBron James had a discussion about the new NBA socks
On an episode of ESPN’s That’s OD, Ohm Youngmisuk and Dave McMenamin discussed Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers. During this discussion, McMenamin mentioned that before the Laker’s first preseason game LeBron James and Westbrook talked.
The talk between LeBron and Russell was about the NBA’s new socks and how they don’t fit over taped ankles. Youngmisuk mentioned the irony of Westbrook talking about things not fitting as he doesn’t fit with the Los Angeles Lakers.
McMenamin further said that while Westbrook has looked good to start preseason games, he’s faded away in the second half. Dave also said that Westbrook’s poor shot selection and erratic effort on defense have let him down.
Dave McMenamin talked to new Lakers Head Coach Darvin Ham about Westbrook. Ham said that Westbrook knows what he needs to do and if he doesn’t deliver Ham will hold him accountable. Both McMenamin and Youngmisuk believe that this may be a trap to eventually trade Westbrook.
It looks like the Los Angeles Lakers are going to start the season with Russell Westbrook. This does not mean that the Lakers have ruled out a trade closer to the trade deadline. The Lakers were heavily linked with the Pacers but a trade didn’t materialize.
The trade didn’t happen because the Lakers were reluctant to part with both of their first-round picks. That stance has since changed, the Lakers will trade both picks if a suitable deal can be found.
The two Lakers first round picks project to be extremely valuable. That is because they are first round picks for 2027 and 2029. By that time both LeBron and Anthony Davis will have retired and the Lakers will be a mediocre team.
