Only LeBron James has Cam Thomas beat in this stat after Nets star records 40-point game

Cam Thomas only trails LeBron James in a particular stat after the Brooklyn Nets star recorded a 40-point game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Brooklyn Nets went up against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Barclays Center on Tuesday night. Fresh off losing their star shooting guard to the Dallas Mavericks, the Nets were desperate for a win to set things right and bring the winning feeling back to the locker room – however, they failed to do so as they succumbed to a 124-116 home defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Cam Thomas in action for the Brooklyn Nets

While Paul George and Kawhi Leonard starred for the Los Angeles Clippers as they racked up 29 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively, it was young Cam Thomas who starred for the Nets despite ending up on the losing side. George racked up an incredible 47 points in his display against the Clippers, along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists – scoring at 15-29 shooting, 7-11 from three-point range and 10-11 from the free-throw line.

Thomas’ display was a dominating one as he pushed the struggling Nets to fight against the in-form Clippers side even in the absence of the Nets’ stars Kevin Durant and former star Kyrie Irving. While Thomas cemented himself into a household name in the NBA community through his performance, he also cemented his name into the record books – alongside LeBron James.

How did Cam Thomas cement himself into the record books alongside LeBron James?

The young Thomas has been a growing commodity, but a career-high 47 points helped him cement himself into the record books alongside LeBron James.

James is the only younger player than Thomas to have two 40-point games

Thomas came into Monday night’s outing off the back of a 44-point performance, and bettered it with a 47-point haul which sent him into the record books. According to the Nets in an update following the game, Thomas became just the fifth player in team history to score at least 40 points in consecutive games and he is the youngest player in franchise history to do so.

With his achievement, Thomas also joined LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic, Allen Iverson and Andrew Wiggins as the only players in NBA history to record at least 40 points in consecutive games prior to turning 22 years old. However, only LeBron James was younger than Thomas at the time of breaking the record – which makes Thomas’ feat all the more special.
