Paolo Banchero was drafted by the Orlando Magic with the 1st overall pick in the recently concluded NBA Draft 2022.
Paolo Banchero, the no. 1 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft is apparently not fazed by the high expectations that will be set for him in the season.
Banchero who played for Duke knows what it is like to play when everyone’s eyes are on you. He was picked ahead of Chet Holmgreen and Jabari Smith, and as a result, he’ll need to perform well, otherwise, the Orlando Magic would not look good.
Paolo knows what lies ahead for him. He said, “There’s going to be high expectations for myself that I’m going to hold myself to and that everyone is going to hold myself to.”
The No. 1 overall pick added, “But I feel like it’s nothing I’m not used to. It was the same thing for me heading into college, throughout high school, a lot of expectations. It’s been like that my whole life.”
With the inclusion of Banchero, the Orlando Magic now have a very good roster consisting of young star players. Paolo joins the likes of Markelle Fultz, Franz Wagner, Cole Anthony, Mo Bamba, etc.
The head coach of Orlando Jamahl Mosley firmly believes that they have got the right man in Banchero. Talking about what they analyzed in the three top players of the draft, he said, “There’s things that you’re grabbing from each one that you’re like, ‘Oh, man, wow, that can be great for us,'”
He added, “But then it ultimately comes down to, ‘How does that fit for us? How do we jell with them in the locker room? How are they treating people when they’re walking in?’ Because all those pieces play a factor. And I think we’ve done an incredible job with those details.”
Hopefully, Paolo Banchero will turn out to be a star player for the franchise and shows the world why he was the No. 1 overall pick in such a talented draft class.
