Tyler Herro had earlier claimed that he deserves to be a starter on the Miami Heat after a great outing this season.
Even though the Miami Heat were knocked out by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, they had a pretty decent season. They had championship aspirations and they might have been playing in the ongoing finals if not for injuries.
One player that Miami missed heavily in the ECF was Tyler Herro. He win the 6th Man of the Year Award, and his absence certainly impacted their scoring options.
Tyler Herro had recently claimed that he thinks he should be a starter for Miami next season, and he believes that he deserves it after a great season this year.
Pat Riley had his response ready to Herro’s comments. He said, “The next step for him — and I think we’re seeing this in the league — if you want to win a championship and you wanna be a starter, you really have to become a two-way player today, You have to improve in certain areas of your game. I saw improvement in his defense this year, he’s got great, quick feet…”
Pat Riley wants Tyler Herro to prove himself ahead of next season
Pat Riley certainly believes that Herro needs to earn his spot as a starter on the team. He claimed that Herro should come to the training camp and show why he should be starting for a championship-contending team like the Miami Heat.
Riley further said, “But as far as being a starter, come to training camp and win it. Sometimes it’s that easy, and sometimes the fit was better for us coming in, balancing the energy of scoring and having somebody who can really control the ball. If he wants to be a starter we’ll see in October. That’s something that you earn. There’s no doubt he has the qualities to be that.”
Tyler Herro will be out to prove once again that he deserves to start. He had a poor last season, but he bounced back very strongly this season. Herro would love to continue this form, and ascend his transformation into a star player on his team.
