Adding Patrick Beverley to the Lakers can open the doors for LeBron James as he aims for another championship with the iconic franchisee.
Patrick Beverley is joining LeBron James and the Lakers this upcoming season and it can only help the purple and gold as they were lacking a defensive piece in the team.
Woj from ESPN tweeted that the Lakers are receiving Patrick Beverley from Utah Jazz and the Jazz is getting Tucker and Stanley Johnson in this recent move.
LeBron and his quest for the fifth ring
The 37-year-old athlete is playing at an elite level and is committed to winning another ring with the Lakers. This will be his fifth ring in the NBA as he is looking to improve his Finals record which currently is 3-6.
LeBron played exceptionally well last season and averaged 30.3 points per game, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game. Even after the fabulous performances, the Lakers could not qualify for the playoffs due to two major reasons, injured Anthony Davis and weak plays on the defensive end of the floor.
What Beverley is capable of on the court
According to ESPN stats and info, Patrick Beverley is the second-best defender after Giannis Antentokoumpo when closing a shot. He has been locked in his career defensively and it can benefit the Lakers the most.
Beverley allowed the second-lowest shot percentage at 41.9% in the last five years and outperformed defensive names like Rudy Gobert, Ben Simmons, etc. He can definitely improve the defensive gesture of the team as in the last season Lakers were ranked 21 out of 30 NBA teams.
As Bron is optimistic to win a ring with key players and all-stars, the lineup seems better with adding Pat Bev with the healthy Davis.
Patrick Beverley brings toughness
Pat can add value and depth to the team with the improved defensive skillset and play along with point guard, Russell Westbrook.
The relationship between Westbrook and Beverley has not been nice throughout and it is a bigger concern according to the fans than choosing the starting five to win it all. Both the players are mature enough to play as a unit for the team to win a ring together.
The future Hall of Famer LeBron-led team is better with Patrick in the lineup as he is an amazing role player and might prove to be the missing piece that they lacked in the last season.
Lakers offseason talks
There were speculations that the Lakers are trying to recruit Kyrie from the Nets but now it is less likely as they added a defensive piece. Kevin Durant’s decision to stay at the Brooklyn also helped Kyrie to run it back with the Nets.
The Lakers have offensive bombs in Russell Westbrook and AD, along with LeBron but they were lacking defensive force. However, the lack of defensive ability is not a concern anymore after adding a quality piece in Beverley.
Los Angeles Lakers’ roster is more loaded than in the last few years with players like LeBron James, Patrick Beverley, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook.
There are a positive number of chances that Westbrook wins his first ring with LeBron winning his fifth this year in purple and gold.
