Pau Gasol has replied to the viral clip from “The Redeem Team” featuring his former teammate Kobe Bryant talking about “going through his chest” ahead of the 2008 Olympics final.
The Redeem Team will be coming out on October 7 and will feature the American basketball team in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, as they hoped to reclaim the gold following a disappointing bronze medal in Athens 2004. So when the United States went up against Spain in the final, the whole team were desperate to win – none more so than the skipper Kobe Bryant.
LeBron James and Dwyane Wade featured in the documentary as they spoke about Bryant’s plan ahead of the final. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar intended to begin the game by running through his close friend and teammate in the very first play of the game for multiple reasons – for Gasol being the Spanish screen for the attacks, as well as to prove a psychological point.
Even though James and Wade did not believe their skipper when he revealed his tactics, they – along with the unsuspecting Pau Gasol – were left speechless when Kobe did exactly what he promised to do. Since then, it was easy sailing for the United States who reclaimed gold, and while the clip went viral on Twitter – Gasol himself reacted to the trailer with a perfect reply.
What did Pau Gasol have to say about Kobe Bryant’s special plan for him?
Gasol came up with the perfect reply to his friend’s special plan for him.
While the Spaniard himself appeared on the trailer to speak about how Kobe visited him before the game in order to “soften him up,” he also took to Twitter to give his thoughts on Kobe’s plan. Quoting the trailer for the Netflix documentary, Gasol – a two-time NBA Champion with Kobe – wrote: “Friendship doesn’t exist on the court. Hermanos forever #TheRedeemTeam”.
It was certainly a reply that his old friend would approve of, one that shows how Kobe’s Mamba Mentality passed on to everyone who ever played in his teams.
