Paul Pierce has claimed that the MVP title will have a new recipient this season rather than the usual suspects such as LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant.

The new NBA season is almost upon us, and it automatically means that the predictions for the upcoming season are coming in numbers. It is that time of the year indeed, and everyone in the NBA community from fans, and analysts to former players are weighing in on their favorites to win the Championship title and the seasonal awards such as the Most Valuable Player award.

While most people would put their money on the usual suspects for the MVP award such as the likes of Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant, some think outside the box and name a lesser favoured name as their prediction to win the coveted MVP award. Paul Pierce is one of them as he named a lesser favoured player to win the individual award.

The former NBA star who is known mostly for his spell with the Boston Celtics, weighed in on his prediction for the Most Valuable Player of the upcoming season – and it would certainly be fair to say that it was not a name that many people would back going into the new season.

Who did Pierce name as his choice for the MVP this season?

Pierce named Joel Embiid as his choice for the MVP this season.

According to Pierce, it is the Philadelphia 76ers center who is the favourite to win the MVP award this season. When asked about who is his pick for the MVP out of so many great players in such great teams, Pierce went out on a limb and said that it won’t be anyone from the United States. Pierce added: “So, it’s gon’ have to be Greek Freak, Luka or Embiid.”

Pierce went on to say: “I think Embiid is hungry this year, so I’m gonna have to go with Embiid this year. He’s gonna get you the numbers that’s gon’ scream MVP. I think he got robbed last year, but I think he’ll get it this year.”

In all honesty, it is not a bad prediction as the man with the most points last season may as well put in similar numbers to earn him the MVP this year.
