NBA trades always excite its fans. Trades can change the game within a league or even trade is quite smart considering the future of the franchise. 2022 Trade deadline also had one mega-deal involving two of the biggest stars of the league – James Harden and Ben Simmons.
This trade is a win-win situation so far as both players possess equal star power and impact on the game. Tough they have different attributes; Harden is more offensive than Simmons while the latter has a great deal of defensive prowess and subtle offensive play. This equality can be considered till either of them sets foot on the floor.
James Harden started training with the Philly staff along with his teammate Paul Millsap while Ben Simmons is still taking time to settle in Brooklyn. When Harden entered the 76ers home game for the first time as a Philly player, he received a grand welcome from the crowd.
Though the welcome and prospects seemed bright for the team, the night ended in a heavy defeat. Joel Embiid managed just 19 points in the game, which just highlights the difficulty the team faced in the match-up.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 57 points and 20 rebounds in the game. Boston won the game 135-87 in Philly. This was their largest marginal loss this season. The previous highest margin was 35 in November against the Jazz.
How Joel Embiid and James Harden can change fortune for the team
Philadelphia was a peripheral contender for a long time. For the last 4 post-seasons, they managed to reach till conference Semis on 3 occasions. But 4-3 consecutive losses in semis left them empty-handed.
Ben Simmons was an important piece for the team, but couldn’t finish off the season in glory. Now a hardcore offensive and former MVP player, he can be a huge boost for their Championship aspirations. The coach and front office kept focusing on the championship this season.
Harden who said “Philly was his 1st choice away from the Rockets”, is an effective ball-handler and shooter. Embiid is great around the rim. This lethal combination can be very effective for the team in the closing moments of the game. Harden proved his mettle in the Brooklyn and Rockets. Embiid also had great seasons with Philly.
Both players are without any Championship ring in their lustrous careers. Joel Embiid is a current MVP candidate and with the addition of former MVP player, the team can fancy their chances this season.
