Report: Russell Westbrook expected to be part of Lakers training camp with LeBron James

Russell Westbrook is expected to be a part of the Los Angeles Lakers training camp along with his teammate LeBron James according to reports, contrary to rumours stating he is likely to be traded off.

Amidst rumours of Westbrook likely to be traded off to another franchise especially following long time rival Patrick Beverley to the Los Angeles Lakers, it now seems more and more likely that the Lakers have become comfortable to starting the season with Westbrook on their books.

After the Lakers reportedly tried all summer to offload Westbrook (who had a disappointing season for the Lakers last year), it now seems like a deal in the short term is unlikely and hence without further ado, the Lakers have now planned to include Westbrook in their ranks as they aim to begin their preparation for the upcoming season.

Hence, according to reports from the reliable Marc Stein, Westbrook is likely to be included in LeBron James’ traditional training camp ahead of the start of the season.

Stein reported: “Word is that another Lakers minicamp is likely in coming days and that Russell Westbrook would indeed attend if it comes together.

Stein added: “Any sort of pre-camp gathering involving LeBron and his fellow purple-and-gold vets would represent a key step in the Lakers’ efforts to move past all the tension that bubbled throughout last season’s rocky 33-49 campaign, before the Lakers report for their first practices under new coach Darvin Ham on Sept. 26.

What does Westbrook being kept mean for the Lakers?

Westbrook being kept by the Lakers means that they have a star-studded squad as they approach the new season.

LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the newly gained Patrick Beverley would join Westbrook as the Lakers start their preparation for the upcoming season.

In fact, Westbrook had already spoken to the Lakers as they try to sort out their differences before starting the new season together, with some reports even claiming had Westbrook has had a conversation with long-term rival Beverley – their beef dates back to nearly a decade.

Hence for now, it looks like Westbrook is going to stay at the Lakers for the near future at least.
