Reports: Charlotte Hornets are interested in acquiring Russell Westbrook from the Lakers

Published by

Russell Westbrook might be on his way to play for the Charlotte Hornets, as the team from Carolina is heavily interested in acquiring him.

The Los Angeles Lakers‘ experiment with Russell Westbrook failed miserably last season. As expected they are looking for suitable options to trade him. However, not many teams are interested in trading for the Lakers star.

One team that has emerged as a potential suitor for Westbrook is the Charlotte Hornets. According to KevinOConnor, the Hornets can get Russell Westbrook in order to take his expiring contract.

Russell Westbrook will be a free agent after the next season, and that would create a decent cap space for the Hornets to work with. That would help them to extend their young star Miles Bridges.

Miles Bridges and Lamelo Ball are seen as the core of the Hornets’ franchise. The team would love to retain both of their young stars, and in order to pay them well, they might trade for Westbrook.

Who can the Hornets offer to the Lakers to get Russell Westbrook?

Even though the Lakers wouldn’t mind parting ways with Russell Westbrook, they will not let go of their star player for cheap. Considering the fact that they traded so many assets to acquire Westbrook, they’ll look to get some assets in return also.

The package that the Hornets can offer the Lakers might be with Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier. Both Rozier and Hayward will match their salary with Westbrook, and hence will balance out the trade.

This trade would be decent for both parties. The Hornets get an expiring contract, while the Lakers finally get some shooting in the form of Hayward and Rozier. Moreover, the Hornets duo can get their own shot, which will help the Lakers massively.
