John Wall hasn’t been a part of the Houston Rockets team, but he has opted in to exercise his player option for the next season.
The Houston Rockets aren’t in contention mode like they were over the past years. Their sole focus is on building the foundations for a better future. They have the 3rd overall pick in this year’s draft, with which they are likely to bring an elite talent.
Moreover, their young players like Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr., Alperen Sengun, and Jae’Sean Tate are developing well, and the future looks bright for them.
A player who isn’t involved in the mix for the Rockets, but is a part of their team is veteran John Wall. He has been clearly told by the franchise that he is allowed to seek trades to another team, as they don’t see his future with the team.
As reported by Shams Charania of the Atheltic, John Wall has opted in to exercise his $47.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season. As a result, he’ll stay with the Rockets, until he and his agent find a deal for him somewhere else.
Even though John Wall wouldn’t get a chance to play for the Rockets, this certainly was a good decision on his part. $47.5 million is a lot of money, and he wanted to get it rather than risk it.
He’ll eventually end up on another team, but he has got himself paid. Teams like the Lakers were interested in getting him. We can see Russell Westbrook going the other way if it actually happens.
