The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Markieff Morris.
The Brooklyn franchise are reportedly in an advanced stage of discussions in order to sign free agent Markieff Morris.
According to Marc Stein, only four days after talks were started in order to sign Morris, the Nets have progressed into an advanced position to sign the free agent.
Morris, a 6’8” power forward is currently a free agent after being released by the Miami Heat this summer and it would make sense for the Nets to go in for him provided they have two slots open in their 15-man roster.
After they confirmed that Kevin Durant’s trade request was rescinded and he would continue with the Nets, the Nets have moved on with their signings.
Would Morris make sense for the Nets?
The 32 year old veteran Morris has plenty of experience having previously turned out for the Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat over a 11 year career, and has championship credentials after being a part of the NBA Championship winning Lakers side in 2020.
The acquisition of Morris would make a lot of sense for the Nets who are lacking that leadership in a quite unsettled dressing room at the moment.
Even though Durant’s situation is better after he settled his differences with the Nets, the unsettled summer concerning Durant and Irving meant the Nets were too busy to focus on approaching the new season.
However, getting a proven dressing room leader like Morris might do a world of wonders for the Nets. Even though Morris played only 17 games for the Heat last season owing to his injury issues, his voice in the dressing room can be a major factor as the Nets try to win the title.
Stein reported earlier that both the Nets, and the Philadelphia 76ers had interest in signing the free agent, but it is the Nets who have moved into an advanced stage of discussion with the forward and now look like favourites to secure his services.
Getting Morris would, in fact, make plenty of sense for the Nets.
