Zion Williamson has declared that he would love to max extension with the New Orleans Pelicans after uncertainty around his future began to increase.
Throughout the season there had been uncertainty around the future of Zion Williamson with the New Orleans Pelicans. He didn’t play a single game last season due to injuries. The Pelicans were able to qualify for the playoffs without him, and that was a great achievement on their part.
The Pelicans added up CJ McCollum and he has provided that extra quality to their team. If Zion plays in this Pelicans team alongside CJ and Brandon Ingram, they can easily contend for the championship. Zion himself knows about it, and as a result, he is also looking to commit for the long term with the Pelicans.
Talking about the contract extension with the Pelicans, Zion said, “I do want to be here. That’s no secret, I feel like I’ve stood on that when I spoke. It was a long year for me for rehab and mental battles. I’m fine now. I’m ready to get to work.”
He added, “Of course. Of course. I wouldn’t be able to sign it fast enough. I can’t control rumors and how people feel about certain things, but anybody that knows me knows I want to be here.”
This statement by Zion Williamson certainly would have brought happiness to the Pelicans fans. The former No. 1 overall pick is a great talent, and everyone knows how great he can be if he stays healthy.
Zion Williamson was disappointed because of missing the entire season
Last season was a great season for the Pelicans. Their young team finally made the playoffs, and things are looking brighter for them ahead of Zion’s return. Zion claimed that he was disappointed because he wasn’t able to help his team.
He said, “It sucked watching from the sideline, but I got to see our potential, We’ve got a lot of great pieces, and I’m excited to get on the court with those guys. … You saw it on the court. We have a special group. I truly believe that. “
Zion added, “I’m one of those people that believes the more your team wins, the more individual awards will come. So, with a special group, a coach like Willie [Green], I think a lot of great things will happen.”
