Shannon Sharpe has agreed with Charles Barkley who has expressed his discontent at Zion Williamson being named as a starter in the 2023 NBA All-Star game.
The NBA All-Star game has been tradition of the NBA for as far back as we can remember. The best players in the competition all come together to go up against each other, forming a number of mouthwatering team-ups as well as contests that excites the NBA enthusiast more than anything.
The NBA All-Star game is an incredible occasion simply because it features the biggest stars in the competition all coming together in the same arena at the same time. Naturally, an All-Star appearance is a testimony of a player’s stature and legacy in the competition, and there is no doubt that it is quite a reliable parameter to judge a player’s impact in the league considering fan votes.
However, the inclusion and exclusion of players as starters based on fan votes might often cause a division of opinion – as it has seemingly done. Former NBA professional turned analyst Charles Barkley has recently expressed his discontent at Zion Williamson being named as a starter, as he thinks that there were better candidates to fill in for the New Orleans Pelicans star.
What did Charles Barkley have to say about the selection of Zion Williamson?
Barkley went on air during the latest episode of NBA on TNT to express his reservations on the New Orleans Pelicans star being named as a starter.
The inclusion of the young forward Williamson naturally meant that Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings and Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz were both snubbed. Barkley raised a problem with that, as he said: “I would have went with Sabonis or Markkanen… I don’t think you can miss 20 games in the first half of the season. I just don’t think that’s fair.”
Shannon Sharpe affirmed Barkley’s opinion as he took to his Twitter and quoted the excerpt – writing “I said the exact same thing.” Zion Williamson was named as one of the frontcourt starters from the Western Conference, alongside the likes of LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Steph Curry.
