Shaq is known as one of the most dominant players in the NBA, but he has also been quite open about being a juvenile delinquent in his youth.
Shaq was welcomed as an esteemed guest on The Big Podcast to share his opinion on a dispute between an NFL legend and Bethune-Cookman University. The conversation turned into an emotional one as Shaq shared how his terrorizing and brutal nature made his mother face a stressful time.
Shaq elaborated, “I do a lot of things I accomplished a lot of things but nothing touches me more than seeing her say, I love you and I’m proud of you.”
He added, “Because y’all don’t know this, but from 2 to 18, I put that woman through hell. Not even 18, 15. I was bad. I was a medium-level juvenile delinquent. And, never got into gun play but everything else I did it.”
“Knives, fights, not gangs but, you know, hanging out with the boys. Just doing a lot of crazy, almost getting hurt, like did a lot of crazy stuff and I could see all the sides on her face.”
Shaq revealed how his father disciplined his juvenile delinquent nature making him realize the reality
The 4-time NBA champion shared how his father took it upon himself to fix the life of his step-son. He said his mind-set had to be changed. “And then, my dad hit me with a two-piece one time and it shook my brain. I was like, you know what?”
“I’m going to start doing right. And then, you know I can remember when I had my first little article and the smile on her face. I’m like, man! she loves me.”
The 15-time NBA All-Star said he still regrets his nature during his youth as it bothers that his mother had to face the entire load herself. The big man is considered to be one of the most aggressive players on the court. However, he gets emotional whenever the conversation boils down to his youth and family.
