Patrick Beverley’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the upcoming season has attracted plenty of opinions all over the internet, and Stephen A. Smith has become the latest to speak his mind on the move.
The Los Angeles Lakers roped in the free agent to help LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook in their bid for the NBA Championship, and in all honesty, it sounds like an impressive team on paper with efficient combinations all over the court.
However, the renowned NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith does not see this one combination working out for the Lakers.
The American sports journalist who is a commentator on ESPN’s First Take and an analyst on SportsCenter spoke his mind about the Beverley trade and came clean about the one particular combination he does not see working out for the Lakers.
What combination does Stephen A. Smith not see working for the Lakers?
According to Smith, he thinks a particular Lakers star will have to be moved on after the Lakers gained the services of Beverley.
Smith came clean about his opinion that according to him, Russell Westbrook will have to be moved on by the Lakers now that they have Beverley on their books. Though Smith agreed that Beverley to the Lakers is a good move, he added that on the flip side: Russ might have to pack his bags.
Smith commented he does not see Lakers paying as much money to Russ after the acquisition of Beverley – keeping in mind that he had a disappointment of a season last year. However, according to Smith, if Russ wants to keep playing in the NBA but with considerably fewer wages, there will be a job for him.
Smith pointed out that there might be a lack of calibration between Beverley and Westbrook on the court – the two have had a rivalry that dates back a decade, and more than that, Beverley is not known for being a sharpshooter.
It will certainly interest to see how Pat Rev and Russ shape up in the dressing room, and if they indeed manage to co-exist or not.
