NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith has claimed that a trade for Kevin Durant could save the Golden State Warriors’ season.
The Golden State Warriors have had a major disappointment of a season so far. The defending champions would have hoped to start the season on a strong note despite a controversial preseason that hampered their momentum going into the season, but it has been just the start that they did not want – as they currently sit 12th in the Western Conference with a 6-9 record so far.
Golden State’s record on the road provides even worse reading, as they have lost eight successive games on the road – only one away from equaling their all-time record of nine opening away games lost in the 1989/90 season. While there has been a general drop in the team performances, it would be fair to say that Steph Curry is performing at the level that he’s known to perform in.
The talismanic guard has been having an incredible season despite the lack of support, as he currently averages 32.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game this season despite the Warriors’ troubled start. Curry has had two 40-point+ performances, and scored a whopping 50 points in his latest game – an away defeat to the Phoenix Suns despite Curry’s best efforts.
Curry has previously commented during this season that he feels like he is “in his prime”, and the Warriors would be distraught if they waste the prime of a generational player like Curry. Stephen A. Smith seems to share a similar sentiment as he put forward a solution for the Warriors to make sure that they do not waste the prime of their talismanic guard.
What solution did Stephen A. Smith give to the Warriors to save their season?
The NBA analyst suggested that the Warriors should trade in for Kevin Durant to make sure they do not waste Curry’s prime.
Smith commented on the trio of Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and James Wiseman failing to acclimate, and suggested that the Warriors need to make a move for former player Kevin Durant to save their season. Durant is unhappy with his current situation with the Nets, and would reinstate a deadly partnership with Curry that saw the Warriors win two Championships.
“Now if you have changed and you no longer believe in some of those young guys, go ahead and make the trade for Kevin Durant,” the NBA analyst said on the latest episode of First Take. “You can not waste Steph Curry playing like this. You can’t take this for granted.” Smith stressed further: “You can’t waste the greatness of Steph Curry. You can’t waste it.”
