Stephen A. Smith dropped a major Golden State Warriors trade bombshell regarding Draymond Green’s future after the infamous Jordan Poole punch incident.
The Golden State Warriors have not had a perfect build-up to their title defense this season, owing to the Draymond Green-Jordan Poole scandal. It was in a practice session where tempers flared and Green eventually ended up hitting Poole – matters only got worse when the footage was leaked and Green had to eventually apologize to Poole and the team publicly.
However, the incident has hampered the Warriors’ momentum leading into the upcoming season and the morale in the locker room does not seem to be very high at the moment. It was reported that the atmosphere of tension leading to the incident owed to Green and Poole’s respective contract situations – while Poole will sign a deal soon, Green is on the last year of his contract.
With his current deal set to expire in 2023, it may be likely that this proves to be Green’s last season at the Warriors. Reputed NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith certainly thinks so, as he said that Green expects to leave the Warriors for the Los Angeles Lakers after the season.
Stephen A. Smith said that he does not think that the Golden State Warriors are looking to keep hold of Draymond Green.
According to Smith, the Warriors are looking to extend three players–namely Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green–but the former two are more of a priority as compared to the latter. Smith also added that Green already expects this season to be his last year with the Warriors, and he has already chosen his new preferred team – the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Draymond Green is expecting this to be his last year in Golden State. Now, he wanna be a Laker,” Smith said. The NBA analyst added: “He ain’t gonna tell anybody that, but don’t think I don’t know. He’d prefer to be a Laker if he gotta leave Golden State.”
