There are two things we have learned from the latest episode of NBA Countdown – Jalen Rose is a big fan of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Stephen A. Smith cannot stand any vague takes or opinions passed by his peers. When Rose was discussing how the Greek Freak would’ve defeated the Brooklyn Nets in the 2021 EC Semi-Finals if James Harden and Kyrie Irving were in full health to support Kevin Durant, Stephen A. Smith could not help himself but interrupt his companion.
Just to turn back the history pages, Jalen Rose is referring to the same playoffs wherein Kevin Durant’s toe, inched ahead of sending the Nets into the EC Finals. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Bucks took the initiative and went on to win the NBA Championship by beating the Phoenix Suns.
“As soon as I hear people bring up the Kyrie Irving injury, it reminds me that people still disrespect Giannis (Antetokounmpo),” Rose said. “(The Milwaukee) Bucks were gonna beat the (Brooklyn) Nets anyway (even with a healthy Kyrie Irving and James Harden).”
This is just what Stephen A. Smith could not let sink into his mind, as he animatedly interrupted his co-host to make him realize of what he had just said. The veteran sports media personality and analyst stated, “What?! That is nonsense!” Smith responded. “I will remind you; the Brooklyn Nets were up by 50! Okay? 50!”
Smith then had to remind Jalen Rose about Kevin Durant’s epic overtime-forcing last-second shot in Game 7 of that series. KD’s buzzer-beater ended up being called as a two-pointer because his foot was on the three-point line when he went up for the shot. If you were to think about Durant did manage to tackle a stagged and star-studded Milwaukee Bucks. But again, those are just scenarios which could’ve taken place.
