LeBron James is widely regarded as one of the best players to play the sport. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar will surely retire with an incredible legacy in the sport he has played professionally for 20 years – with four NBA Championship titles, four MVP awards and more individual accolades.

However, he wants to add another feather to his cap. It has been reported that King James wants to own an NBA franchise to be involved in the NBA even after he hangs his boots up, and also wants the franchise to be hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada. The 37-year-old said, “I want to buy a team for sure… I want the team in Vegas” – sparking all sorts of speculation about his desired ownership.

However, when NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith was asked about his views on LeBron going for the ownership of the Las Vegas team – that is set to join the NBA very season as part of a new extension – he had something completely different in mind. It so turns out that Smith wants LeBron to own a franchise that already exists in the NBA and has done so for a while indeed.

What did Smith have to say about LeBron James owning an NBA franchise?

Smith firstly said that LeBron deserves to own an NBA franchise and then went on to say about what franchise he particularly wants LeBron to own.

Speaking on an ESPN talk show, Smith also spoke about how he feels it will be hard for LeBron to acquire ownership of the Vegas franchise.

However, Smith also spoke about how he does not put anything past LeBron and also spoke about how he feels that the NBA “owes it to him” after everything that LeBron has given to the league over the last 20 years of his career.

It was also mentioned in the show that LeBron has had the experience of ownership in sport, having stakes in the Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool Football Club – and it was then when Smith brought up the fact that he wants LeBron to own the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns’ minority owner Jahm Najafi has asked for Robert Sarver’s resignation from the franchise’s ownership after allegations of racism and misogyny against him. Smith stated that LeBron should fill Sarver’s shoes and take up the reins at the Suns.
