Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors have had an unwanted champions’ stat to their name that has not been matched since the 1950s.
The Golden State Warriors have not had the best of starts to their season. The defending champions from last season were one of the favorites to retain their title this season, but a very tumultuous pre-season along with a number of holes in the roster has meant that their start has not been the one they had wished for – the Warriors have begun the season on a 3-7 start.
Their start seems all the more disastrous when one takes into consideration the fact that the Warriors have now lost all of their last five games this season – the latest defeat of which came against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. The Warriors put up a toothless display as the Pelicans won the game 114-105 to further pile the misery on the struggling champions.
With Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green all some way off their best form – it has not been a smooth start to the Dubs’ defense of the title. In fact, not only has the start been disastrous by the Warriors’ very high recent standards, but it also turns out that their start this season is statistically one of the worst starts by any defending NBA champion in history.
Since their seventh loss of the season suffered against the Pelicans, a stat has surfaced that shows just how bad the Warriors have been when compared to defending champions since the 1950s.
The stat in question is the Warriors’ 0-5 record on the road this season, which is the worst by any champion since the 1950s.
A stat surfaced on the latest episode of ESPN’s NBA Countdown, which said that the Warriors’ defeat to the Pelicans was their fifth straight away loss of the season – meaning that they have started their season with 5 consecutive losses away from the Chase Center. Their record provides bad reading for fans, as no other champion has managed to have this record since the 1950s.
Even though Stephen A. Smith said that he is not really worried about the Warriors’ start, fans will begin to get jittery with time considering the Warriors’ current form – on a losing streak of five games at the moment, the Warriors are one of the most out of form teams in the league.
