In his recent interview with GQ magazine, Stephen Curry selected contestants for an All-star 3 point shootout. Here is the list and other probable candidates
Stephen Curry is one of the best shooters in the NBA right now. The fact that he broke Ray Allen’s record for most 3-pointers in the regular season this year, he looks certain to feature in NBA All-star 3-point shootout. When asked in an interview about the same, Steph gave away his list for the contest.
Curry said, “My brother (Seth Curry) and Klay, and Buddy Hield is the other guy. I think he is like right behind me, (in terms of the number of three-pointers this season); so anybody who is shooting at a high level like he is, you want to beat the best. So those three guys.”
He had already mentioned that he doesn’t know whether he would be playing in the contest or not. Every year he waits for the names announcements. But as per current stats, Curry is leading this season with 192 three-pointers, which might give him a nod for this year’s contest also.
Stephen Curry won the All-Star 3-point shooting contest 2 times. Klay Thompson (2016) and Buddy Hield (2020) also had their hand on the three-pointer contest trophy. If we go by Steph’s selection, Seth Curry might be the one look to beat former winners to give himself his 1st All-star contest trophy.
Probable candidates for the All-star 3-point shootout with Stephen Curry included
The 3-pointer contest was introduced in 1986 as the NBA plays inclined more towards the long-range shooting. The League sends invites to the players for the contests and those who accept the same will participate in the contest.
So there is no specific rule about the selection process as such. But hypothetically if we are given data and asked to select the players, top candidates would be as follows,
Player Name | 3 Pointers made this season | 3 pointer FG percentage |
Stephen Curry | 192 | 38.4% |
Buddy Hield | 160 | 38.1% |
Fred VanVleet | 143 | 40.9% |
Patty Mills | 128 | 42.1% |
Desmond Bane | 128 | 41.0% |
Malik Beasley | 125 | 35% |
This list consists of players who are raining the 3s’ in this season.
