Stephen Curry’s text message to Kevin Durant proves how selfless the Warriors star is as pair celebrated NBA titles together

Stephen Curry’s text message to Kevin Durant proves how selfless the Golden State Warriors superstar really is as the pair celebrated NBA titles together.

Stephen Curry is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of our generation. The Golden State Warriors superstar is a four time NBA champion as well as a regular season MVP and a Finals MVP, and has revolutionized the game in his very own way. Curry’s influence on the game stemmed from his unnatural shooting ability and carved his name in basketball history.

However, even apart from the shooting ability that has seen him arguably be named the best shooter of the ball in NBA history, Curry is also known for his selflessness. While many superstars would be against the idea of sharing the spotlight with another superstar, Curry was very open to the idea of Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant joining him in the Bay Area.

With Kevin Durant set to join the Warriors in one of the most high-profile deals in the history of the NBA, Curry sent a text to the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar trying to recruit him for his super team. Curry recently sat down with Warriors General Manager Bob Myers to reflect back on the text message that he sent to Durant in order to recruit him.

What did Stephen Curry have to say about his text to Kevin Durant?

Curry sat down with Myers to explain his message to Durant.

Everything you just explained worked because I know myself,” Curry said. “I know how I can operate in that environment with somebody as great of a basketball player as he is, all the off-court platform, selling shoes and all that other stuff. That all mattered, but I also know myself to know I could exist in a situation where I know when to get out the way, I know when to lead, I know when to speak, I know how to find value in myself every single day.”

And nobody was really going to threaten that part. It was just like, ‘Is this going to help us win, and am I going to enjoy playing basketball with him? Hell yeah.’ So [I was] trying to explain all of that to him at that moment.” The decision to sign Durant was clearly a masterstroke, as the Warriors won back to back titles with Durant being named as the Finals MVP in both campaigns.
