Tony Parker was the starting Point Guard for the San Antonio Spurs for the majority of the time when the team clinched five NBA Championships during the era of Tim Duncan. Having played a huge part in making the franchise among the top 5 in history, Parker might’ve upset some of his teammates. Stephen Jackson was one of them.
Recently Jackson went on to explain how the Spurs could still have added more championships to their cabinet if Tony Parker wasn’t as selfish as he was. Not only that, Jackson even claimed Tony to be rude to his teammates.
Parker said, “I know the type of person Tony is. Great player, going to go down in the Hall of Fame. But he’s very selfish. He’s been selfish. We would have had more championships and more success if it wasn’t for him being so selfish… He come to the NBA, start as a 19-year-old. He had a rude awakening because once we got to the playoffs, it was Stephon Marbury, it was Jason Kidd. He couldn’t handle them, so we had to play Speedy Claxton. I know the real Tony. He can fool everybody else, but he is one of the most selfish players I’ve ever played with.”
While Tony Parker will undoubtedly be a Hall of Famer in the coming years, there is no doubt that the European talent was controversial. Stephen Jackson was just one of the many who couldn’t get the best out of themselves while playing alongside him.
That being said, a Spurs side containing both Stephen Jackson and Tony Parker will also be in the Hall of Fame, being one of the greatest ever teams to be assembled.
