Joel Embiid has thrown out some major disrespect in direction of the Toronto Raptors, calling them a team who does not care about winning.
Joel and the Philadelphia 76ers took the victory home in overtime against the Toronto Raptors with a 104-101 score. Embiid was asked about his teammate Melton’s performance, but he smoothly transitioned it to a hefty blow towards the Toronto Raptors.
“We’re always on him, me especially,” Embiid revealed his views on De’Anthony Melton. “Everybody really, because I know that as long as they keep shooting,” He indicated that if Tobias Haris, P.J. Tucker, James Harden and the other players coming off the bench keep shooting, Raptors make it easier to win.
“But when you play a team like Toronto, they don’t really care. It seems like, most of the time, they don’t care about winning. They just want to shut down the other star players,” the 5-time NBA All-Star added, “But when you play that, you got to be ready all night. You got to stay alert and have the confidence of just keep shooting it and hope that you make them when they come. That’s what he did tonight.”
Joel Embiid slams Toronto Raptors in a subtle manner
Joel Embiid ended his night by shooting 6 for 16. He bagged 28 points with 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Many speculate that Embiid’s statement was made out of frustration as Toronto kept surrounded by a double team denying him the chances to get good shots.
The 2022 NBA Scoring champion pointed out in his statement that Raptors are only after star players not winning the game. Pascal Siakam gave a man of the match performance. 38 points and 15 rebounds in the total 48 minutes that he played.
The Philadelphia 76ers have a record of 17-12 in the 2022-2023 NBA season. They would be hosting the Detroit Pistons in their next game on Wednesday. Their star player Embiid is averaging 33 points in 21 games with 9.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists.
