Jayson Tatum declared his arrival in the NBA by his infamous dunk on the 4-time NBA Champion, LeBron James. He was only 20 years old and none had the idea of the amount of potential he holds.
Jayson Tatum explained how the dunk on LeBron James made him realize the potential he holds. The NBA came to know about a 20-year-old rookie who had the audacity to dunk over the 4-time NBA MVP. Tatum realized after talking to LeBron post game that he has announced his arrival in front of the World in that very moment. He talked about the moment on retired NBA player JJ Redick’s “Old Man and the Three” podcast.
After the dunk, Jayson Tatum addressed his poster moment in the press conference, “I grew up watching LeBron. Asking him to follow me back on Twitter. Going to his camps… To be able to compete against him & be a few shots away from beating him & his team is something I’ll always remember.”
The reporter asked about the dunk in particular, he replied, “I had to get him back.” He added, “Yeah, I mean I had to get him back for the two shots he hit on me in Cleveland, I mean no disrespect by it. You know, just in the moment, I made a play and was just showing emotion.”
From that dunk on LeBron James, Tatum has come very far. He is seen amongst the best player in the league currently. On the Christmas Day matchup, Boston Celtics vs Milwaukee Bucks, the fans were excited to see two top Eastern Conference teams clash against each other.
Tatum’s plans were out of the ordinary, he and Boston Celtics scored the most points since 1983 defeating Bucks, 139-118. He scored 41 points in the game with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
“It’s fun. It’s fun playing on national TV; it’s fun playing on Christmas,” Tatum said after the game. “And those matchups are fun. You get to play against the other best players, and it just raises your level of play. The competition is exciting, but that’s the game that you live for. The moments, the matchups, if you can’t get up for those games, then you’re probably in the wrong profession.”
