Tyler Herro won the Sixth Man of the year award this season and is a huge part of Miami’s core.
Tyler Herro the shooting guard of the Miami Heat recently won the sixth man of the year award. He had been the best player coming from the bench throughout the season. Tyler had a stellar bounce-back season this year, as he averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
Following their gruesome loss against the Boston Celtics in the ECF, he had some words to say about his role in the future. Tyler claimed that he wants to be a starter next year for Miami.
Talking about the starting role next year, Tyler said, “Yeah, for sure,” Herro said. “In some way, I would like to start. I think it’s my fourth year, so I think I’ve earned it, and we’ll see what happens.”
He added, “I’m not sure yet, honestly, what’s going to happen, We’ll see what happens this summer. My agent [Jeff Schwartz] will talk to who he needs to talk to, and we’ll see what happens.”
Herro wasn’t healthy for the most part of the series for the Celtics. Miami missed Herro heavily, and if he would have been fit they could have won the series. Tyler himself opened up about how he felt after not being able to help his team.
He said, “The playoffs for me were kind of a weird ride, Ups and downs throughout the whole thing, but I think it was a learning curve for me. I think people forget I just turned 22 and it’s still only my third playoffs, and as I made a jump this year I continue to get better and I think throughout my career there’s gonna, especially early on throughout my career, there’s going to be small setbacks where I learn.“
Tyler Herro was happy with the experience that he got in this year’s playoffs. He believes that he’ll only get better from this experience, in which he wasn’t able to help his team because of an injury.
Tyler added, “It motivates me, it gets me better and teaches me what I need to work on to get better, and next time I’m in that situation I’ll be more prepared and better.”
Tyler talked about how he went through his preparations for Game 7. He said, “Going into Game 7, I was kind of on the fence whether I should play or not, And I felt like I was healthy enough to play. Me and [Heat coach Erik Spoelstra] had a good conversation, and he just felt like it was all hands on deck and whether I was going to play or not just depended on how the game was going.“
Following the exit of Miami from the playoffs after losing Game 7 against the Celtics, there have been continuous rumors regarding a trade for Donovan Mitchell. It is believed to be centered around Tyler Herro. Mainly because he is the only player that would attract the Utah Jazz.
Donovan Mitchell can elevate the Miami Heat to a favorite to win the championship. Even though Herro has been good for them, they are likely to part ways if Mitchell is available.
This will be an important offseason for Miami. The future of Herro will ultimately be decided in it. Either he’ll become a starter for Miami, or he might become the face of the franchise in Utah.
