Udonis Haslem has tied Kobe Bryant in a record after re-signing with the Miami Heat this summer, as the veteran’s extension means that he is now second on the list of most seasons played for one franchise in NBA history.
Udonis Haslem’s recent one-year contract extension at Miami Heat as a 42-year-old means that he will play his 20th season in the NBA for the Heat.
Haslem announced his decision to sign a new deal at Heat during an appearance at his youth camp on Sunday, and his decision means that he has now tied one all-timers in an NBA record.
Upon joining the Miami Heat in 2003, Haslem is approaching his 20th season with the franchise, a feat that places him a joint second on the all-time list of players with most seasons played for a particular franchise.
Haslem has tied one of the greats of the game in the late Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers on 20 seasons played for a particular franchise, and now only trails Dirk Nowitzki who played 21 seasons for the Dallas Mavericks.
WHO ELSE DOES HASLEM JOIN IN THE LIST?
With the extension, Haslem’s feat helps him join an elite list comprising some of the all-timers in the NBA such as Bryant, Nowitzki, Tim Duncan (who played 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs) and John Stockton (who played 19 seasons with the Utah Jazz) Haslem is the only active player in the list amongst some absolute legends.
Haslem who has not played a significant amount of games in the past couple of seasons, still is a major figure in the Heat dressing room, guiding the Miami franchise to the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
Being a part of all three Miami Heat teams to have won the NBA Championship, Haslem will be hoping to add another ring to his career accolades, if the Heat do end up becoming NBA champions again this season for the first time in 10 years.
