Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizard’s game had more than 1 highlight incidence as Joel Embiid and Montrezl Harrell got into the fight.
Washington Wizards hosted the Philadelphia 76ers in their intra-conference matchup on Sunday night. Washington was on 2 games winning streak while the Philadelphia team had lost to the undermanned Atlanta Hawks.
Also, Washington had a 17-15 record while Philly had an exact .500, a 16-16 record. Philadelphia had players back healthy and improved after the Embiid return. Joel leads the team in scoring (25.5) and rebounds (10.9) and proved to be the focal point of the 76ers offense.
The Wizards were without top performer Bradley Beal and offensive duties were taken care of by the whole team. Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid delivered for the 76ers. While Harris managed to score 23 points, Embiid scored game-high 36 points along with 13 rebounds.
The game was close till the 3rd quarter when the 76ers were leading by just 4 points and still around 3 minutes of the quarter was due. But suddenly game got ugly with fight and shoving between the Wizards and 76ers players.
As we can see it was an offensive foul from Embiid that got Harrell angry and nearly a fight began to erupt, but players separated both of them. But Harrell was still mad at Embiid and 30 seconds later his unnecessary dig at Embiid got him a second technical foul, which means ejection from the game.
This actually could be the game-changing moment in the match as no other Wizard player could stop Embiid near the rim after that. HArrell had 17 points in 18 minutes game play but importantly he was defending Embiid. The 76ers register a 117-96 win against them. With this win, the Philadelphia 76ers went above Washington Wizards on the head-to-head rule.
When asked about the incidence, both players put forward their views to the reporters.“He flopped,” Embiid said. “I don’t think he made a play on the ball, and we got tangled. I wouldn’t say I baited him into that,” Embiid said. “I’d like to think I’m a troll.”
While Harrell seemed upset about the result and ejection, he replied to reports as “I don’t know, you’ve got to ask the ref, man, I didn’t feel I did anything wrong. It’s as simple as that.”
Joel Embiid and Harrell did have such incidences in the past, but players need to keep their cool while performing on the court. Philadelphia will face Toronto Raptors and the Wizards will visit Utah Jazz.
