The Los Angeles Lakers recorded their first win in six games with a win over the Brooklyn Nets at the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday. The Lakers who had a struggling start to their season with a 2-10 record ahead of the clash, came up with a resilient performance to break their five-game losing streak and record an important win even in the absence of the talismanic LeBron James.

The Lakers were in control of proceedings since the very first quarter and did not let their grip on the game slip throughout the game. While Anthony Davis scored a game-high 37 points along with a whopping 18 rebounds and 2 assists, one of the more understated Laker’s performers on Sunday was none other than Russell Westbrook – who played an important role off the bench.

Westbrook has slowly gotten accustomed to his bench role this season and put on one of his best performances this season as he racked up 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 12 assists for his teammates. While Westbrook did his job on the offense, it was on the defensive side of the game where the former MVP excelled – and shut down one of the best players in the game Kevin Durant.

Durant has been having an incredible season for the Brooklyn Nets and recorded a tally of 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists on Sunday. However, it ultimately ended in a losing cause courtesy of the Lakers’ resilient defense – and one particular moment from Russell Westbrook.

What was the particular moment where Westbrook shut Durant down?

It was the first quarter when Durant stepped into the arc for a two-pointer and looked like he would almost effortlessly get his attempt underway – however, it was not to be as his former teammate telegraphed his movement and sneaked him on Durant from behind. Right, when Durant was about to shoot, Westbrook blocked the attempt and the Lakers began a turnover.

It was a clever piece of play by Westbrook as he shut down his former teammate who he knows plenty about, and helped the Lakers get back to their winning ways.
