NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal (Shaq) wanted LeBron James to admit he is a “GOAT” after the latter created history to become the NBA’s record scorer of all time.
LeBron James is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever step foot on a basketball court. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar is currently in his 20th season in the NBA and boasts a career that any rookie would dream to have, having won four NBA Championships, four regular season MVPs and having shattered a number of records – though one eluded him all the way.
So when the Oklahoma City Thunder travelled to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, all eyes were on LeBron James – who started the game only 36 points off Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record points tally. It was in the final seconds of the third quarter when LeBron hit the Thunder with a fadeaway jumper for two points, and became the highest scorer in NBA history.
While the Lakers failed to make the occasion an even greater one by securing a much-needed win, celebrations ensued at the final buzzer as the congratulations kept flowing in for the history maker of the night. NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal also sent his congratulations to LeBron James after the game, and the two took part in an interaction that went viral on social media.
Following the game, LeBron was mic’d up for NBA on TNT where he interacted with the legendary Laker Shaquille O’Neal.
Speaking on TNT on the Postgame Show after the game, Shaq asked LeBron: “Are you the GOAT?” When a humble LeBron said “I’m gonna let everyone else decide who that is”, Shaq prompted him by saying “I want to hear you say it! Say it with your chest!” – to which LeBron said that he personally would take himself over anybody to have ever played the game.
“It does offer great barbershop talk”, said LeBron. He added: “Me personally, I’mma take myself over anybody that’s ever played this game. But everyone’s gonna have their faves. I know what I’ve brought to the table, what I can bring to the table every night. I always feel like I’m the best to ever play this game, but there are so many great ones – and I’m happy to just be part of the conversation.”
