Rapper Snoop Dogg and NBA Champion Stephen Curry do the amazing “Curry Sway” with the kids
On Tuesday Golden State Warrior Superstar Steph Curry unveiled a newly refurbished court in Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Long Beach, California. With legendary rapper Snoop Dogg.
The kids of the community walked into the center of their new court but they had no idea they would be meeting rapper Snoop Dogg and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.
Willie McGinest, a Poly High graduate and all-pro NFL linebacker, also joined in on the unveiling and fun that followed. All the kids along with Steph and Snoop did the Curry Sway. You can watch the video below:
Snoop also mentioned that this is the same court where he learned to do layups,
“This is the same court where I learned to do layups,” Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, Jr., 51, said. “This is the place where I learned how to play basketball, play football, and be active in the community. It’s where I learned to rap, talk and just be me. To come back and see the kids doing different things, trying to be better than we were – that’s what it’s all about.”
During the event, the kids broke into groups and enjoyed some basketball drills. They also got to watch the two stars shoot around.
According to a press release by Under Armour, Steph Curry and Snoop Dogg helped to repair the court inside the facility at the Boys & Girls of Long Beach.
Under Armour and Curry are trying to help more than 100,00 children by renovating more than 20 “safe places” by 2025.
Legendary moments with the Doggfather!! Incredible day in the LBC w/ @snoopdogg and #CurryBrand… seeing the AMAZING artwork by @DamionScott2 for our newly renovated court at @bgclublb. Couldn’t ask for a better collab in our ongoing mission to help serve our communities
Here is the statement released by Curry after the unveiling,
“We want to provide a space where you can come enjoy yourself and get lost in the fun, lost in the competition, invest in yourselves, and be around a lot of amazing coaches and programs,” Curry said. This is the beginning of hopefully an amazing journey, not just in sports but in life.”
“Sports teach you so much about life and building great character, being a part of teams and believing in yourself. We want to be able to provide that for you guys through Curry Brand, and we’re excited about that.”
Don Rodriguez, CEO of the Long Beach Boys & Girls Clubs, said,
“This was a terrific gift to these kids. What a great day for everyone.” He estimated that the cost to refurbish the gym was $250,000. “Just seeing the joy on the faces of all those children makes everything worthwhile,”
More than 200 kids from the local Long Beach community are expected to benefit from the refurbished court.
