LeBron James is one the greatest basketball players to have played the game, but when did LeBron James get drafted into the NBA?

Even though LeBron James is one of the greatest basketball players of all time, there are still people who ask, when did LeBron James get drafted and what college he went to. LeBron James was drafted by his hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers with the number 1 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.

He played for St. Vincent–St. Mary High School and was considered the consensus top prospect well before the draft took place.

Although LeBron was considered the best player in the draft, the 2003 NBA Draft is considered one of the most loaded drafts in NBA history. The reason for that is Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade were selected with the 3rd, 4th and 5th picks of that same draft. The 2003 NBA Draft produced 15 players who won NBA championships, these 15 players combine for 27 NBA Championships between them. It also produced one Hall of Famer in Chris Bosh and 3 soon to be a Hall of Famers in Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James.

What has LeBron James achieved since being drafted?

LeBron James is currently playing with the Los Angeles Lakers. Over his so far 19 year career, James has won 4 NBA Championships, 4 finals MVP awards, been selected to 17 NBA All-Star Games, 17 All-NBA teams and 6 All-Defensive teams while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers.

After being selected by the Cavaliers in 2003, he won two MVP awards and even led the team to the NBA Finals. But he eventually left the Cavaliers in 2010 and join the Miami Heat to play with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. LeBron won his third and fourth MVP awards and first two championships with the Heat in 2012 and 2013 while simultaneously earning his first two Finals MVP awards.

LeBron returned to Cleveland in 2014 with the promise to bring an NBA Championship to the city. In his second season back he did just. The Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit to bring Cleveland the NBA Championship in the 2016 playoffs. LeBron won his third NBA title and third Finals MVP award.

In 2018 LeBron joined the Los Angeles Lakers and convinced Anthony Davis to join him as well. During their first season together, LeBron and Davis led the Lakers to the 2020 NBA Finals.

They beat the Miami Heat in 6 games to win LeBron his 4th Championship and 4th Finals MVP award. This made LeBron the first person in NBA history to win the Finals MVP award with three different NBA teams. James is currently trying to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most NBA points and he’ll probably achieve it during the 2022-23 NBA season.
