Stephen Curry is widely recognised all over the world for his incredible shooting technique as well as his signature ‘Night Night’ celebration.
Stephen Curry is regarded as one of the best players in the game of basketball right now, and some would even argue for him to be in the conversation for the greatest player of all time. While Curry is known for being the greatest shooter in NBA history with the most three pointers, he is also known for a signature celebration that people closely associate with the superstar.
The Golden State Warriors is known across the world for his ‘Night Night’ celebration – which Curry describes as a celebration used to denote him putting his opponents to sleep. The celebration has since created ripples in the sporting world across the planet, with American soccer star Alex Morgan and Brazilian star Neymar joining in on the bandwagon as well.
However, for the comparatively unseasoned NBA fan, a commonly asked question is when did Curry bring out the Night Night celebration for the first time? It turns out that the origin of the celebration was an impromptu one, and quite an interesting story while we are at it.
As it turns out, Curry brought out his signature celebration for the first time during the 2021/22 NBA Play-Offs.
It was during the first round of the Western Conference Play-Off game between the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets, when Steph Curry debuted the celebration as we know it now. It was right after he hit a tough lay up on the 2021/22 regular season MVP Nikola Jokic, that Curry brought out the then unnamed celebration – Curry simply described it as “putting his opponents to sleep.”
However, it was when the celebration became a common occurrence during the 2021/22 Play-Offs which the Warriors eventually went on to win – that Curry trademarked his celebration as the “Night Night” celebration as we know it now.
