The new NBA season is around the corner and arguably the most important record in the NBA is on the line with that.
One of the most distinguished records in the NBA is leading scoring and with this upcoming season, it is at stake.
Currently, veteran league star Kareem Abdul Jabbar is holding the record of the leading scorer who played for the represented gold and purple for the last 14 years after coming from his initial six years at Milwaukee Bucks.
Nobody would have agreed a few years ago if someone had said that Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s record of the leading all-time scorer can be broken. Things have changed, and it is not looking very far now. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is on the verge of breaking the league scoring record this season if he stays healthy.
LeBron’s position now: how far behind is he?
After 19 successful seasons, LeBron is standing tall at a tally of 37062 points. Second to only Kareem, who has 38387 points and is the leading scorer till LeBron’s season 20.
Notably, the Akron native surpassed Karl Malone last season, who was in the second position with 36928 points to become the second-highest scorer in the NBA.
LeBron is supposed to break this record around the all-star game. If LeBron stays healthy and can score over 27 points a game, which is his career average, he will hold the top spot in the first 49 games for the Lakers this season.
The Lakers could not impress last season but LeBron did. If James scores last season’s hot numbers, he can get to the top spot a little quicker. With this rate, he can also be able to surpass the number 40000, which has never been reached before.
LeBron James and his accomplishments
The hype surrounding LeBron James has never been minimal or low. He has always been a dominant force on the court, and he is entering this season with the same energy.
LeBron James, now in his 20th NBA season, is one of the most accomplished players in NBA history. With four rings and four NBA MVP awards, he is the most stacked-up player with 18 all-star appearances.
