Who amongst the NBA players is leading the All star voting?
On Thursday, the initial fan returns for the 2023 NBA All-Star voting were made public, and a few well-known names are at the top of the list. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets are the top two players in the Western and Eastern conferences, respectively, with 3,168,694 and 3,118,545 votes, respectively.
Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors leads all guards in the Western Conference with 2,715,520 votes after the first round of voting, while Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets takes the top spot in the East with 2,071,715 votes.
With four of its players making the top-10 list at their respective places in the first fan results, the Lakers, led by LeBron, are securing the first spot. Along with James, Austin Reaves, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis have also had a lot of fan support. Along with Curry, the Warriors have four players on the list in the form of Kevon Looney, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.
How are the NBA All-Star voting results determined?
For the purpose of selecting the starters for the NBA All-Star Game, the fan vote makes up 50% of the overall vote. The remaining 50% is distributed between media personnel and active players. Two guards and three frontcourt players from each league are included in each vote. NBA head coaches select reserves, while league commissioner Adam Silver selects injured replacements as needed.
Then, the All-Star captains will choose their teams from the available players (starters in first round, reserves in second round). The players who receive the most fan votes in the NBA All-star voting in each conference will be chosen as captains. It is not necessary for them to draft according to conference participation or stance.
