Who is the NBA player, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s agent and much more you need to know about him?
After a protracted battle with cancer, famous agent Georgios Dimitropoulos, who helped bring Giannis Antetokounmpo from the A2 to the NBA, died at the age of 50.
The careers of notable Greek athletes like Theodoros Papaloukas, Nikos Zisis, and Georgios Printezis were overseen by Dimitropoulos, among others. He was trilingual, speaking English, Italian, French, and German while attending the Athens University of Economics.
The Octagon Europe agency, one of the top representation firms in European basketball, was founded by Dimitropoulos. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks was his most recent trade. From 1988 until 1996, he worked as a coach before founding the Octagon agency in 1997.
Twenty years ago, George Dimitropoulos rose to prominence as one of the best agents, first in Greece and subsequently throughout Europe. He played a significant role in supporting Giannis Antetokounmpo and enabling his unlikely ascent to NBA prominence. Among his most important contacts were Theodoros Papaloukas, Nikos Zisis, and Giorgos Printezis.
Giannis and Alex discussed their relationship in more detail during an interview with “Complex.” To quote Giannis: “The most important thing he told me is that he wanted me to be happy, and to be comfortable with my choice. We talked about every single option for months, but at the end of the day he knows me, and knows what matters the most to me and my family.”
Giannis also addressed the misconceptions people have regarding his connection with Alex Saratsis. The foundation of the connection between a player and an agent is trust. After all, the athlete is giving the agency control over their professional destiny. Given this, it is fair to believe that Saratsis acted in his client’s best interest.
