Who is Wally Szczerbiak? The All-Star who got in trouble for making unnecessary comments on Tyrese Haliburton

Wally Szczerbiak found himself surrounded heaps of criticism when he blatantly went out to throw shades at Indiana Pacers sensation Tyrese Haliburton. What made the NBA veteran do so? With him currently being a Knicks analyst, Haliburton missed a potential game-tying 3 pointer in his breakout season in the NBA.

Although Tyrese posted an impressive double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Wally Szczerbiak did not let him go that easy as went 2-from 6 from downtown. Perhaps this is just when the former one-time All-Star threw shade at Tyrese in the most brutal manner.

Szczerbiak said, “Mr. Supposed, wanna-be, fake All-Star with the big miss there. Last chance, down (3 points) for the wanna-be All-Star. He’s in his second year, he’s a very good player….he’s not going to make the All-Star team.”

But when these comments came to Tyrese Haliburton’s attention, he wasn’t even sure who Wally Szczerbiak was and which era did he feature in the NBA. So, just for you to not have the same outlook – let us get straight into its detail.

Wally Szczerbiak and his career in the NBA?

He was the 6th overall pick in the 1999 draft, and eventually went onto be selected once for the All-Star game when he was representing the Minnesota Timberwolves. Interestingly, Wally spent seven seasons with the Timberwolves where he averaged a career-high 20.1 points during the 2005-06 season.

However, as responsibilities and expectations were increased and many thought of him to become a serious star in the league, plagued him infrequently. As a result of which, he had mediocre stint with Boston Celtics and Seattle Supersonics.

That being said defending himself, Tyrese Haliburton clapped back at Wally Szczerbiak saying (in an interview with Taylor Rooks), “I don’t know if I ever came out and said, ‘I want to be an All-Star this year! Please vote for me!’ I think he was just excited about a Knicks win and that got him going, but he’s just doing whatever he can to get attention.”
