For a sitcom centered on elementary school teachers, the Philadelphia-set comedy has done an incredible job of incorporating sports allusions, gags, and cameos that feel really natural. Already this season, they’ve transformed the parking lot into an Eagles tailgate and featured a magnificent Gritty cameo in the season premiere, which was followed by a rather amazing one-liner about Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) who has to appear in court for slamming objects at Ben Simmons in last week’s episode.

As they do their Halloween episode, Janine (Quinta Brunson) attired as James Harden, detailed with cornrows and an amazing fake beard. This episode proceeded the Philly sports references. Early this week, still images from the episode started to circulate on Twitter. On Monday, they even reached Harden, who is rumoured to be a fan of Brunson’s cosplay and famously “doesn’t have the internet” (which is a remarkable achievement).

The beard genuinely highlights the episode, as it is absurdly huge and perfect, and it’s all on the character to perform for a programme that has successfully captured the spirit of Philly sports fans in its first season and beyond.
