LaVar Ball is not keen on his youngest son, Lamelo Ball landing up with the LA Lakers. Know what he has to say.
The Ball brothers’ father, LaVar Ball has never shied away from speaking his mind, for better or worse. He recently spoke with Complex in an interview about his sons LaMelo and Lonzo’s NBA careers.
In the interview, Complex went ahead and questioned LaVar if he desires for his youngest son, LaMelo Ball to eventually join the Los Angeles Lakers as LaMelo’s current team, the Charlotte Hornets is currently near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
However, LaVar Ball quickly shot down the idea. So Lakers fans, there’s no point in hoping or rejoicing. LaVar went ahead and exclusively stated that he did not want or have any interest in another one of his sons joining the legendary Lakers franchise.
“Common sense would tell you, hell no. You did something to my boy Lonzo, and you think I’m going to come back with the others? I gotta be stone-cold crazy” exclaimed LaVar.
Nevertheless, as stated before, there is no way Lakers fans should keep their hopes up in acquiring LaMelo Ball anytime soon.
Further, in case of LaMelo Ball, the Hornets will almost certainly match any offer he receives elsewhere in the league, even if they both (LaMelo and Hornets) are unable to agree on a contract extension before LaMelo enters restricted free agency in the summer of 2024.
Notably, 21-year-old LaMelo is currently playing his third season in the NBA and has played all the time with the Hornets. This season, LaMelo has just made seven appearances for the Hornets, averaging 23.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.3 blocks.
LaMelo has not been able to play much this season because of persisting ankle injuries. However, when healthy, LaMelo is a lethal three-point shooter and is converting a career-best 40.3% of his threes on 11.1 long-range attempts per contest.
What has happened to Lonzo Ball?
After his Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans stint, Lonzo Ball was traded to the Chicago Bulls in the 2021 season. He was balling out for the Bulls during the 2021-22 NBA season but then tragedy struck.
Lonzo Ball suffered an injury. Due to a meniscus tear in his left knee, Ball appeared in only 35 games in his first season with the Bulls. There was hope that Lonzo will return in time for the last year’s playoffs, but he was eventually ruled out.
Come to this season, that is the 2022-23 NBA season, the injury of Ball has not yet healed. Thus, his availability this season for the Bulls is in high doubt.
On Jan. 20, 2022, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Ball had been diagnosed with a “small” meniscus tear in his left knee.
A few hours later, the Bulls announced that Ball would undergo arthroscopic surgery and was expected to return in six to eight weeks.
But Lonzo Ball’s return is still awaited because the injury never went away. Nevertheless, recent updates say that Lonzo is feeling better and is optimistic to return to duty.
