The uncertainty around the future of Zion Williamson is finally resolved as he has signed a massive contract extension with the Pelicans.
There has been a lot of uncertainty around the future of Zion Williamson. Due to injuries, he wasn’t able to play in a single game for the New Orleans Pelicans last season.
As a result, there were many rumors regarding whether the Pelicans gave Zion a contract extension or not. There had been talks regarding a potential move away from New Orleans to Zion. He has always been linked with the New York Knicks, and they are more than eager to have him on board.
However, all of that is stalled as of now. The New Orleans Pelicans have given Zion Williamson a five-year max extension and he is going to get paid a lot of money despite his injury issues.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN: New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has agreed on a five-year, $193 million designated maximum rookie extension that could earn him as much as $231 million, CAA Sports’ Co-Head of Basketball Austin Brown tells ESPN.
The New Orleans Pelicans made the playoffs last season without their best player. With Zion Williamson coming back next season, they could be a sneaky title contender.
The addition of CJ McCollum has really helped the Pelicans. The trio of Zion, CJ, and Brandon Ingram could turn out to be pretty good, and other teams should be scared of the Pels next season.
