Reports: Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets are close to a Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving swap trade

Published by

Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook could be on their way to each other’s current teams, as a trade edges closer.

Star point guard Kyrie Irving may also depart after Kevin Durant submitted a trade request to the Brooklyn Nets. Irving just chose to opt-in his player option with the Nets for one more season, and it appeared that he would play there this year. All of that, though, has been destroyed by Durant’s decision.

The Los Angeles Lakers, who had previously expressed interest in dealing for Kyrie Irving, are currently in the driver’s seat in the competition to get Kyrie. Kyrie and the Lakers are both interested in one another, and we can see it occurring before the season even starts.

Given that KD is expected to leave the Nets and that the Lakers have made him their top target this offseason, Irving may join the team to play with LeBron James.

There has been news regarding a potential swap deal in place between the Nets and the Lakers. It will see Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving exchanging their places. Other players will also be involved in this deal, and it is likely to happen in the coming days.

NBA Insider breaks down the Russell Westbrook – Kyrie Irving swap deal

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports was the first to break the news regarding a potential swap deal between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets.

According to him: The Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are actively engaged in discussions on a trade package that would send star point guard Russell Westbrook to Brooklyn in exchange for star point guard Kyrie Irving.

He also stated: Draft compensation is an ongoing talking point for the Nets and they want shooting guard Joe Harris — who is recovering from left ankle surgery — and his remaining $38.6 million owed over the next two years included in the deal, sources said.

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to get Seth Curry instead of Joe Harris. This is mainly due to the contracts of both players. Seth Curry is on an expiring $8.5 million deal, and it will give the Lakers cap flexibility for next season.

Once both parties reach an agreement regarding the supporting players and draft picks involved in the trade, it will go through. It’s very likely that by the end of this week, we’ll be seeing Kyrie Irving on the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers will be the biggest winners of this trade

With the way the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster was constructed, it was nowhere near a championship-level roster. Russell Westbrook didn’t fit with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

The inclusion of Kyrie Irving will change everything. He is the perfect fit next to LeBron and AD. He can play off-ball, is a good shooter, and can facilitate the offense as seen in the past.

In Cleveland, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving were successful in capturing the championship. There is a good chance that Kyrie and the Lakers will win another championship if he joins them.

Kyrie, LeBron, and Anthony Davis will be deadly together. Hopefully, the matter will be resolved quickly enough for everyone concerned. The rest of the league will be put to notice if Kyrie ends up on the Lakers.

Moreover, the inclusion of either Seth Curry or Joe Harris will also bolster this Lakers team. They needed shooting around LeBron and AD, and both Curry and Harris are sharpshooters. As a result, they will fit perfectly into this Lakers team.
