Here are more details about the NBA smart jersey, price, release date, technology, and more
NBA is not only popular because of its electrifying basketball games but also for its eagerness to cater to the fans in different ways. The NBA always listens to the fans and tries to adapt accordingly. They constantly pitch new innovations to satisfy both the old and the new generation fans alike.
Keeping this in mind, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver gave the world a peek at the future of jerseys during the 2019 All-Star game.
Adam Silver brought out the new smart jerseys at the annual All-Star Technology Summit. The NBA All-Star Technology Summit is an event dedicated to illustrating how technology will help advance the sport by 2038.
Silver mentioned in the summit that in the future the fans will gain entry into games via facial recognition, we will have hologram mascots and more personalized game experiences. Along with this, Silver demonstrated the future of jerseys: The NBA Smart Jersey.
Details on how the jersey is made weren’t shared, but it’s a neat, futuristic concept and something that is never witnessed before.
The jersey owner can change the name and the number on the back of the jersey in a matter of seconds by using a simple app on the phone. Currently, the color, style, and the general look of it all stays the same, only the name and the number changes.
There is currently no fixed price or announcement regarding the price of the jersey. However, to make a profit, it is expected they will make the jersey as a whole considerably more expensive than the present ones, or they could possibly implement microtransactions any time you want to switch the name.
Moreover, since these jerseys will need an app to work, one might use it after paying a fixed monthly fee.
Currently, there is no release date of the jersey as this was just a concept to show what an NBA jersey may look like in 20 years’ time.
Nevertheless, one can expect the jersey to be released before 20 years. Nike already produces the ‘Nike Connected Jerseys’ where you download an app on your phone and tap the app against the NBA logo at the bottom of the jersey.
By tapping against the NBA logo, you will get early access to shoe releases, NBA tickets, playlists, and NBA highlights.
Therefore, the technology to change jerseys cannot be too far away.
Day by day we are seeing that the NBA is becoming a star-centric league. Nowadays, fans support a particular NBA player more than a team.
So, every time your favorite NBA player gets traded or changes a team in free agency, you don’t have to buy a new jersey if you own an NBA Smart Jersey.
With just a click on the app on your phone, you can change the number, color, team logo, and even the name of the player according to your choice.
Furthermore, the betting aspect of jersey shopping completely goes away in the future with this innovation.
