Rudy Gobert was earlier traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves from the Utah Jazz and he is excited to join his new team.
The Minnesota Timberwolves had acquired Rudy Gobert, a center for the Utah Jazz, in a major trade that will pair him with fellow All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns.
Four first-round picks, including the 22nd pick (Walker Kessler), Leandro Bolmaro, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley, were reportedly traded by the Timberwolves to the Utah Jazz.
According to insiders, Utah will receive unprotected picks in 2023, 2025, and 2027 as well as a top-five protected pick in 2029 in Danny Ainge’s first franchise-altering deal since taking over as the Jazz’s CEO midseason.
The Utah Jazz has acquired a total of six first-round picks in the last 24 hours and wants to reorganize their roster around Donovan Mitchell. On the other hand, Rudy Gobert is ready to represent his new team, and begin a new chapter of his life.
Speaking on his arrival in Minnesota, Rudy Gobert said, “The goal is to win a championship. I came here for that. I didn’t come here just to be a good team. I came here to try to take this team to the finals and accomplish that.”
Many people saw the exit of Rudy Gobert coming from the Utah Jazz. After their continuous collapses in the playoffs every year, either Donovan Mitchell or Rudy Gobert was about to leave the team.
The last playoffs were the final nail in the coffin. Luka Doncic tormented the Utah Jazz in the first round and sent them home. As a result, the Utah Jazz are trying to restructure their roster, and Rudy Gobert understands it.
Gobert said, “Sometimes the window for winning is not always big, and for us in Utah, that’s kind of what happened. I think the organization felt like that we had maybe passed that window that we had over the last few years.”
He added, “I think they’re still obviously going to be a very competitive team. It just felt like with all the assets they could get for me, that it was better for them to go that way.”
The Utah Jazz certainly got a boat load of picks in the Gobert trade. They can use them to get another superstar, or they might just completely blow it all off and get more picks by trading away Donovan Mitchell as well.
The big Rudy Gobert trade changed the market in the NBA. So many picks were sent by the Timberwolves to acquire Gobert, and that’ll eventually inflate the asking price of superstars.
However, Rudy Gobert believes that his trade is a win-win situation for both teams. Both the Jazz and the TWolves got what they needed to be better in the future, and maybe it will turn out to be good for both teams.
Rudy said, “I think it could potentially be a win-win situation, They also put me in a great situation to win. For me, I’m very grateful for that. They put me on a team that I can keep flourishing and hopefully win a championship.”
He added, “For them, I really hope they’re going to be able to get better and better and hopefully get back to that stage that we were when the Jazz were first in the Western Conference and truly believed they had a chance a title.”
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ championship window has opened after the inclusion of Rudy Gobert. On the other hand, if the Utah Jazz want to continue ahead with Donovan Mitchell, they need to be quick to add other stars. He wouldn’t want to stay there if the Jazz were not in contention for the championship, and many teams are already interested in acquiring him.
