NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics checking on Marcus Smart and Denis Schroder trade value

Boston Celtics are digging deep into the trade market to seek a star-calibre player to complement Tatum and Brown pair

Every team just in a play-in situation near the trade deadline seeks a hot star performer to solidify their postseason chances. Boston Celtics are no exception. They are currently 9th in the East and have a perfect 23-23 record.

The Celtics are .5 games behind 8th seed Washington Wizards, but there is a huge 4-games gap between them and confirmed playoff spot. So they are looking to add a proven star this season which could help them to get in the postseason and deep in the postseason also.

Currently, the franchise seems pleased with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown‘s performances. Certainly, Tatum is averaging 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, while Brown is second in scoring with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Possible moving blocks for the Celtics would be Josh Richardson, Marcus Smart, and Dennis Schroder. All are in a unique position for the team, as they have performed well this season, but are not a difference-maker also. Their on-court performances will fetch high trade value which Boston is looking to capitalize and get that difference-maker.

Marcus Smart and Dennis Schroder situation at Boston Celtics

Marcus Smart is into his 8th season with the Celtics. His career average with the team is just around 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. He will be an unrestricted free agent in the 2023 season. And Schroder, who has signed a 1-year contract with the Celtics, will also be UFA in 2023.

With both players nearing their end of contracts and performing combined 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists per game, the Celtics will want to test the water in the trade market. They will be hoping to land John Collins or Jeremy Grant in return, as per many reports.
