What did NBA analyst Charles Barkley have to say about Kevin Durant of late?
Kevin Durant is never one to shy away from responding to criticism, regardless of who is on the other side of the firing line. The Phoenix Suns superstar is no stranger to criticism despite being one of the best scorers of our generation, and is reputed for his tendency to clap back at his detractors. Durant gave another instance of it when he clapped back at NBA analyst Charles Barkley.
On Monday, NBA legend and TNT analyst Charles Barkley appeared on First Take with Stephen A. Smith to discuss a number of topics in basketball, including Kevin Durant and his legacy after joining the Suns. Barkley said he is holding KD up to the same standard as LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, who both allegedly said they had to win championships without Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal in order to get the “old heads” off their backs.
“LeBron said, ‘I had to win a championship without D-Wade to get old heads’ respect,’” Barkley explained on First Take. “Kobe Bryant said, ‘I have to win a championship without Shaq to get these old heads off my back.’ I hold Kevin Durant to the same criteria.”
What did Kevin Durant have to say about Charles Barkley’s comments?
Durant, naturally, did not hold back from responding to Barkley’s comments.
Durant took to his Twitter account to reply to Barkley as he said “I don’t remember Bron saying this… somebody link me to the article”. In fact, Durant was right – as though LeBron once said that he needed D-Wade to win a title, he never said that he had to win one without him to prove his credibility.
The Phoenix Suns’ success or failure will inevitably depend on the chemistry Durant can build with Devin Booker and Chris Paul along with Deandre Ayton buying into his new role. And while KD has already won a championship in the Bay Area with Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, this is his opportunity to be the focal point of a title run.
