What is NBA Tankathon? All you need to know about the NBA Tankathon

In recent years, Tankathon has developed into yet another shop for the tanking community, including mock drafts, lottery simulators, and standings of every league including NBA, NHL or more from the worst to first.

When Derrick Rose tried to rip his meniscus in 2013, Hoover started the website in the hopes of getting a good pick in the draft for his Bulls. With traffic growing every year and 18.5 million people checking for simulators of the NBA and NHL draft order in the last year, he said he could never have envisioned the sensation Tankathon has become.

“It’s been a pretty pleasant surprise…Really, the beginning of the site timed really well with the 76ers’ ‘Process.’ So the Philly fans really drove the site for quite a while.” Hoover stated.

The rise of social media has also contributed to the popularity of tanking. Numerous top choices from prior years have their own catchphrases and hashtags that support losing. Another factor that has aided the cause is how simple it is for fans to follow and monitor possibilities. Fans of terrible NBA teams have made Duke games part of their schedules in an effort to catch Williamson.

While Tankathon may reap instant benefits in the NBA, NFL, and NHL draft, MLB gives the prize through eagerly awaited potential standings. If fans find it difficult to get through the 162-game grind, they can always keep up with their team’s promising young players or wait for the release of Baseball America’s most recent Top 100.
