Here are the stars from the sport of basketball that have hosted the ESPYs over the years apart from Stephen Curry.
Golden State Warriors star player Stephen Curry recently hosted the ESPYs. He wasn’t the first basketball player to host the prestigious award show that is held every year.
Prior to him some other NBA and WNBA stars have hosted the ESPYs. Sue Bird who is one of the best WNBA players has also hosted the award show. She did it in 2020 alongside soccer star Megan Rapinoe, and former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
The first basketball player to have ever hosted the ESPYs was LeBron James. He did it in 2007. Back then LeBron was climbing the ranks of stardom and he did the show prior to winning the NBA championships that he has won in his career so far. All three of the basketball stars did a pretty great job at hosting the awards, and the moments that they had will be remembered forever.
Like his time on the court, the Warriors superstar did a great job at hosting the ESPYs as well. Stephen Curry started the show by taking a subtle jab at LeBron James. He claimed that, unlike LeBron, he came to host the ESPYS after winning the NBA Finals.
Stephen Curry was under pressure to perform admirably as the ESPYS host, and he did so. In the presence of so many outstanding sportsmen, the four-time NBA champion didn’t hesitate to take the spotlight and created moments that will live in infamy.
Steph did it all, from criticizing LeBron and the Lakers to praising the Super Bowl champions. Even before the awards event began, he made fun of the Boston Celtics and proclaimed himself the team’s father. Moments like this increase both his admirers’ affection for him and his detractors’ hatred of him.
