As said before, Rui Hachimura was born in Toyama, Japan on February 8, 1998. Ever since his childhood, Hachimura has been supported by his parents to achieve his dreams. His parents’ support ultimately landed Rui Hachimura in the NBA.
Coming to his parents, Hachimura was born to a Japanese mother named Makiko and his father is Zakari Jabil, who is a Beninese.
Makiko and Zakari Jabil named their son Rui which means “base” or “fortress” in Japanese. The name ‘Rui’ was notably given by Rui’s grandfather who was a big fan of baseball.
Further, the surname ‘Hachimura’ comes from Rui’s mother’s family side.
Also, Rui has three younger siblings, one brother, and two sisters. Interestingly, Hachimura’s younger brother, Allen, is a basketball player at Tokai University in Japan.
So, this was all about Rui Hachimura’s parents and his family.
After playing college basketball for Gonzaga, Rui entered the 2019 NBA Draft. In the 2019 Draft, Rui was selected 9th overall by the Washington Wizards.
With Hachimura’s selection, he became the second Japanese-born player to be drafted into the NBA after Yasutaka Okayama, and also the first Japanese player ever taken in the first round. Finally, on October 23, 2019, Hachimura made his NBA debut for the Washington Wizards. Since then, Hachimura has been playing for the Wizards. In his rookie year, Rui was also selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team (2020).
